The scripted opening moves at a pace that's not conducive to pulling the player in. Once past that, everything changes very quickly. The dragon encounter at Helgen is so sudden and well done that all the slowness previously is forgiven.

The landscape is beyond beautiful. It's like Bethesda took the very best terrain from Spore and Black and White II and put them together to create this stunning world that you can touch and taste and feel in any way you see fit. The artists working on this ought be commended on the level of detail that's been put into this.

The gameplay...I'm not really in a position to comment on this, since the only other RPGs I've ever played were Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Neverwinter Night which are so different from this that it's apples and oranges; I can't compare them. But so far I'm liking the gameplay. The way you switch weapons is very good I think and the favourites menu is quite nifty to say the least.

The menus, however, feel quite clunky. I don't know if it's just the settings I'm using or whether it's in fact the game itself, but the mouse movement sensitivity in the menus is quite bad. It's not stop-and-start movement like you experience on the Desktop, its different from that which I feel lets it down. I really think Bethesda have screwed PC gamers with these menus because it's incredibly obvious little or no effort was put into making the menus fit better for PCs. Just lazy and sloppy work which puts a significant downer on this incredible game and it's a big flaw because you use the menus so frequently as well. If you're going to port a game from a console to PC, at least have the gumption to do it properly.

Another problem with the PC version are the bugs in the campaign. Like Alduin not showing up in the Elder Scroll "flashback". Other bugs include some quests being unfinishable because a key character you have to kill is already dead, or a certain character being unreachable behind jail bars.

The way item "luggage" is handled is very streamlined, though. You have a set weight of things you can carry and the combination of items within that weight limit doesn't matter. I do think the way damage is assigned with Bow 'n' Arrow is a little odd. Giving the damage to the bow and not the arrows seems a bit...I dunno...off. I think the damage dealt ought be a combination of both the arrow type and the level/quality of the bow.

The main storyline is quite rewarding and about the only way it could be improved is if an intimidate option was added where you could say "I kill Aldiun in single combat. Don't mess with me". But other than that I really enjoyed the story and there were some pretty impressive moments along the way. The skills levelling is really good. You get levels in what you do most which makes sense and each time you level up you can improve whatever you want. Personally I favour the two-handed hack-and-ask-questions-later strategy...its served me well so far.

Coming to Skyrim as the first TES game I've played, I can honestly say it's not as good as people are raving it to be. On a console, it might be, but those flaws in the UI on PC are really galling to me, as a PC gamer, and they definitely sour the experience somewhat. I guess they sour it more for me than for others because I have 0 tolerance for any company who makes multi-platform games but puts one platform ahead of another.

Overall, Skyrim is one of the best games of 2011 and the endless hours of gameplay you can get out of the games are rich and rewarding. The ability to change the difficulty whenever you want will most likely make some purists barf but I think it's a great thing, allowing everyone to play at their own pace and in their own way. The fact that you can also focus on any of the skill trees over any other means you can play The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in as many ways as you can poke a stick at. The biggest drawback for the PC version is that the menus have in no way been optimised for the PC which is disappointing. However it's still one of the best games of the year and PC gamers will get countless hours of enjoyment out of it.

That isn’t to say it isn’t full of surprises and its own unique fold of epic awesomesauce. Let’s dig into this review, while listening to the main theme, shall we?
If this is your first Elder Scrolls then you should know that the series is known for the following: Being buggy, open world, and being epic in scale. Everything in Skyrim is beautiful (provided you don’t look up close) and the impressive draw distance makes its return from Oblivion (the previous title in the series). If you see a mountain in the distance you can undoubtedly climb onto its peak. The only invisible walls in the game lie at the edge of the square (or rectangular) world.
A major issue many persist on trolling about is that Skyrim offers no story or context for your character to exist. This is in fact a staple of the series as previous games all leave you with your own creation with very little in the way of providing a backstory for you. In Skyrim you find yourself being carried on a prison wagon on your way to the chopping block. Anything else about your character has to come from you. Are you a serial killer who suffered major burns on their 5th birthday? Or are you a kleptomaniac of brooms? The (albeit less complex) character creator in Skyrim lets you live out whatever fantasy you wish to pursue although it pales in the freedom Oblivion’s editor has.
Each race you can pick from (10 total) has their own special abilities and preferred builds. However the game let’s you make an Orc wizard, a Khajiit warrior, and even a female (how often do you see those!?). Each race can ultimately be whatever you want it to be. Within this customization lies the gameplay, the heart of any Elder Scrolls experience.
On a basic level you have melee combat with one-handed and two-handed weapons. A step up brings us to arrows and then finally magic. Each has their own perks which you can unlock one per level up. You do not gain levels in Skyrim like you do in most every other RPG (or JRPGS) and instead level up based on how much you use a particular skill. Bringing your level 80 destruction skill up to level 81 will lead you closer to your next level up than bargaining your speech skill up to from 20 to 21. This promotes any style of play as you don’t have to grind enemies for experience.
Warriors have blades, axes, maces, etc. Sadly ranged character only have bows and arrows. However mages can spray fire, conjur familiars, perform necromancy, and make shiny lights (literally). The range of options for most gameplay methods is pretty good but ranged characters get severely jipped. There’s also many unique weapons in the game like the Wabbajack which does random things like turn your enemies into chickens (literally).
Grind it still a problem in Skyrim however and it’s odd in the ways that you find yourself grinding. Enchanting, alchemy, smithing, and speech require a massive ton of grinding to level up by normal means. Leveling up enchanting and alchemy specifically can break the games balance (or lack thereof) although this is in the player’s favor and there are multiple difficulty settings in the game which can be altered at any time (even mid combat).
A new mechanic introduced to the series is the power of Shouts. Shouts are words spoken in dragon tongue which allure to unique effects. Namely, you can spout fiery breath, call a storm, and slow down time. These are obtained through the main plot line (you just need to do the first quest) originally and from then on you’ll find new Shouts as you explore the hand crafted world of Skyrim. Each dungeon, while using similar assets (one barrow looks like another barrow), are unique in both puzzles and layout. However a lot of puzzles involve simple sightseeing (see statue, rotate pillar to match statue, puzzle solved) but a few throw surprises. In fact, at least one of them requires you to read!
The enemy AI is relatively decent but too often does it supposedly yield to you only to “trick” you into buying time to regenerate their health. The problem lies in your combat clearly still showing them as an enemy which when an enemy actually yields your combat will remove them as an enemy. At the very least I praise Skyrim for making potential threats not immediately attack the player. Giants and Mammoths are peaceful creatures until you the player impede too close or start with them.
Dragons, a featured enemy in the game, are completely unscripted encounters. They will perch on buildings, fly around, and land right in front of your face. While it is fun to fight them the balance of the game is rather odd when you have more difficulty fighting bandits than a dragon. Also worthy of noting is that one a dragon had just grabbed my character and tossed them aside. Due to this I instantly died, my health bar never changed during that insta-kill animation; Luckily Skyrim autosaves frequently when you enter buildings and at a pre-defined time based on your choice (5 min, 15 min, etc.). Skyrim also crashed while loading my last save after that insta-kill, fun times!
You should note that your experience with Skyrim may just as well be entirely obtuse compared to my own. The game never forces you to do anything but its tutorial each time you start a new character. After the tutorial is completed you can do whatever it is you wish. Want to kill a town? Do it. Want to join the Bard’s College? Go sing your heart out. There is no “right” way to play Skyrim and even when you beat the main quest the game keeps chugging until you, the player, call it quits. In fact, the credits only play when you pick the option from the main menu! Gameplay is never interrupted (minus some game breaking bugs and crashes).
In my time of playing Skyrim I encountered about 3-4 crashes (all during loading screens) and just one game breaking bug (which due to autosaves only made me lose 5 seconds of gameplay). Considering that it’s one of the most stable of the Elder Scroll’s initiate release (the game is currently at patch 1.3 for PC and 1.2 for PS3/360). Bethesda is extremely quick to make and put patches out. For the PC you can also expect a release of the toolkit to allow you to craft your own mods ranging from making children killable and adjusting the difficulty of dragons specifically.
If you like open world RPGs then Skyrim is one of the best purchases you can make. I’ve played for over 90 hours primarily across one character and I have a journal full of quests for another 90 at least to come. Go buy it, new, so you support Bethesda, and I thank you for spending your precious time on my review!

Combine third-person shooter combat, squad control, and the typical RPG elements from Bioware's other games and you have Mass Effect 2. We have a lot to cover to put some eye drops in and don't blink.

The plot of ME2 is a continuation of ME. Should you have played and beaten ME you know that the game saved afterwards, which allows you to carry all of your choices into ME2. This means the story changes if you've played ME and import your character. If not you can still play ME2 starting fresh but you may miss some things and not quite get all references throughout. Regardless, it's plot time!

The setting takes place in the distant future, 2187 or something I believe. Humans discovered FTL (Faster Than Light) travel and have since been able to move throughout the Milky Way Galaxy interacting with aliens. You play as Commander Shepherd, tasked with saving the galaxy from total destruction from a species called The Collectors. Human colonies are simply disappearing and it is believed that The Collectors are behind it. You must find out where they are and how to take them out....it's a suicide mission through. This means you can die. That is why you must build a team of specialists and earn their loyalty so you can avoid that outcome.

The team consists of ten individuals who will go unnamed in this review. 11 if you count the free DLC that comes with the game (2 DLCs are out so far, both free). You must find these people, recruit them, and then make sure you can have their back as much as they have yours. If not...death.

Now if you played ME and import your character you're in for grand surprises. You'll see old characters, have different experiences, and so on based on your actions. Everything you did in ME carries with you. Did you kill someone? Well, you won't see them in ME2 then. The plot has a lot of subtleties tied to this in the game which you'll only truly appreciate if you played ME sadly.

If you start fresh (no import) in ME2 then you can customize your Shepherd and his/her origins. As you've noticed you can be male or female, which does change a few things later on. Both handle the same though, both have the same dialogue and options available to them, the only real difference is the voice actor and who your Shepherd can have intimacy with.

Speaking of dialogue (hah, first pun, no?) you get to choose everything your character says, every word. You can be a hero, a badass, or somewhere in the gray abyss. There's a lot of grayness in ME2 from how you handle situations. Your jaw may fall off from either laughter or the epic drama your seeing on your screen. There were at least 5 times I had to stop the game just to laugh my ass off. My ass didn't make it.

The other side of the game is the combat. You can have two squad mates with you and you can give them basic commands such as "Go here" or "Stay with me" by use of the D-pad. You can also control their powers using the power wheel, where the game turns from a RTS affair to a slightly turn-based combat flair. Each class (Adept, Infiltrator, Soldier, Sentinel, Engineer, Vanguard) has it's own unique power and all of them play different. Like shooting? Be a soldier. Like flinging mass effect fields around? Be an adept.

The combat has changed drastically from ME. Guns no longer overheat per say but they must be reloaded with a cooling stick to remain functional. Essentially it's an ammo system except with near limitless ammo as there is only one type of ammo (save for heavy weapons, they are strictly limited) and enemies drop it all the time. Combat is also more physics based and faster than in ME. Ragdoll physics have improved and enemies will nearly constant move around. The cover system has also improved as you can now not stick to walls like to and even hop over cover. It may take some getting used to if you've played ME recently as the change in pace is drastic. Enemies at least go down in a reasonable time though.

There's also mini-games to be found in ME2 but they are very different from ME. The bypassing and hacking mini-games are no longer simon says affairs but instead having you matching pieces of code or stringing together circuits. It's a welcome change from ME's system. However the planet scanning mini-game (or rather, necessity) is a mixed bag. In the original ME you landed on planets and drove a rover (the MAKO) around on the surface in search of minerals and other...anomalies. The problem was that the planets level designers didn't talk with the MAKO programmers and it ended up being mostly a hassle to explore these planets.

ME2 has you instead simply scan the planets and launch a prove when the meter spikes to gather materials you'll use to upgrade weapons and your ships. At first it's fun. Too much of a good thing though leads to boredom and while it only takes about 3 minutes to scan a planet (even with upgrades) it's still going to get stale after a while. The real problem is that this is a mandatory process if you want to upgrade anything, adding insult to injury.

ME2 also does away with the inventory system entirely. Each class can only use certain weapons. Soldiers use everything, Adepts use pistols or SMGs. Although all classes can use heavy weapons. The lack of an inventory system is a relief though since in ME you have to rummage through everything just to make sure your party has the right gear. While in ME2 any upgrades you make to weapons take effect on the whole party. You can still customize your armor to make it suite your needs. Need more heavy weapon ammo? Buy leg pockets to hold that ammo.

How long is ME2? I've played for roughly 25 hours (12 hours today....without stopping) and am likely more than halfway done with the game. I'm sad to say it may end for me by at most 40 hours. How is the quality though? That topic deserves it's own paragraph.

ME2 is amazing. The graphics are beautiful, the world feels alive, the music is atmosphere enhancing, and by the goddess there is practically no texture pop-ins! ME has that issue but ME2 also had me notice any texture pops only twice so far. One of which was just a vehicle I would see for a whole 2 seconds so I forgive that one.

The story fleshes out the characters. These I believe are not characters but real people. They are voice acted beautifully. Not a single line of anyone's dialogue comes out with a tickling feeling in your ear. These are all believable people you'll meet. You will drop your jaw. You will laugh (hysterically, for minutes, great cardio workout). You may even cry. And if you've played ME you may just finally find out what the hell Quarians look like under those suites....I still don't know myself.

60 dollars for all of this? To be honest, I'd pay $80 for this game if I had to. There is no reason not to get this, even if you hated ME. The pacing is faster and most everything has been improved for the better. Also, Mass Effect 3 will allow you to import your character from Mass Effect 2....is that enough reason to buy it?

Cleril thinks deeply about the story sometimes. Don't take his word for it, take mine, it's amazing. Also, Quarians are hot no matter what is lurking under those suites...

There is no shortness of amazing in this game, but is it perfect? No, no it is not. It's damn near close though.

Plot

The story in Dragon Age is deep with a malleable tale. When you first start a new game you make your character. Based on your race, class, and origin the game changes both the story, dialogue, and choices given to you. I'll go over those three things later on but each option adds good reason already to replay the game.

To not spoil you, the story involves you becoming a Grey Warden, a sect of people who are in tune with the appearance of dark spawn, demons. You are tasked with ridding the land of Ferelden from these dark spawn, while exacting revenge on a certain someone. This may seem a tad cliche but the length and quality at which the story is told makes it so original and rather captivating.

There are also other stories other than the main one to occupy your pondering mind. Each party member has their own background and personality that you can explore in depth over various conversations with them at your camp. There are many side quests each with their own stories to tell and by simply talking to a random NPC can a story be told.

The plot, needless to say, is wonderfully presented and grand itself. The only slight concern one may have is that so much detail by detail is given that you may get confused while trying to keep up with at least the main story. There were times when I didn't know exactly what I was talking about with someone until my brain caught up. But perhaps that's due to me not being a sponge.

Controls and Gameplay

Before I go into the controls and gameplay let me discuss the character creation process. You can choose from three races, human, elf, and dwarf. The humans are the most populated in the land. The elven people are slightly shorter than humans and are generally poor slaves to them. The dwarves are your standard dwarves but they are not always blood thirsty warriors.

Humans and elves can choose to be warriors, mages, or rogues. However dwarves can only be warriors or rogues, due to their people having a resistance to magic they are not gifted with magic. Based on your class and race you can choose your origin story. There are origin stories such as the Magi, where you complete your training to finally become a mage, or the Noble where you are part of a royal family in the midst of war. Your race, class, and origin story all relate to and heavily affect the main quest. Almost every dialogue is different simply based on these three things. Couple that with your moral choices there is a lot of replay value on all this alone. It is also noteworthy to mention that each origins story on it's own is about an hour long and each is heavily different from each other.

If you have ever played Knights of The Old Republic or Mass Effect you'll see similarities in Dragon Age in terms of controls and gameplay. However, Dragon Age improves and in turn complicates things a tad.

The controls can take some getting used to if you have never played a game like this. It's either a RTS or a Turn based affair, even both if you like. You can freeze time and choose what each of your party members do to what enemy and how or you can control one of your party members and use a selected six skills at any one time. You hold/toggle (based on your preference) the left trigger to bring up a radial menu from which you can select skills, items, poisons, traps, abilities, and give some party commands. You can access this menu from any of your party members but the skills and abilities will vary based on the character. You hold the right trigger to take the RTS route and use assigned skilled mapped to your X, Y, and B buttons. Your A button attacks with your normal weapon.

Now, that sounds awfully complex, and it gets more complex. Since you can only personally control one party member at a time you can use tactics to adapt the AI of your party members to your liking. Want them to heal when their health is < or = 75%? You can set that up. Want them to use a certain skill when an enemy is attacking them with a melee weapon? Go for it. Want them to use an ability when there are three enemies but then if there are four to use a different ability? Have fun setting that up. It's a bunch of if then statements, if your a programmer and it's easy to do but can be daunting for the first few hours to learn all this.

Couple this with the fact you can make/use traps, poisons, etc. against your enemies and you've got quite the makings of a very strategic game. You'll need your brain to have any hope of facing tougher enemies.

The other gameplay aspect to Dragon Age is much simpler. The dialogue. Every conversation you have with anyone you are given choices for what to say. Although your character is a mute, save for typical combat chants and grunts, you have a lot you can say. Want to be the goody little two shoes? Talk the talk. Want to be the most sadistic bastard to walk the lands of Ferelden? Go ahead, if you have the persuasion skill at the proper level, you can.

The gameplay can be cumbersome at first but once you get used to how it work it feels more manageable. There is also a slight problem with some parts of the game having a sudden spike in difficulty. I myself died 25+ times in the same part of the game, about ten of which were unavoidable kills, another ten were cheap kills, and the other five was due to me being a Rogue Archer alone with no party assistance....I chose to start over as a mage due to this but I never raged quit surprisingly, unless starting over counts.

Graphics and Audio

The graphics in Dragon Age are not too good, not too bad. The character models and facial expressions and mouth movement are all great and look fitting. As do the creatures you'll face and other characters you will meet. However the environment and world itself lack in much amazement for the eye to see. The world itself is not a copy/paste affair but the lack of good detail shows. The animations and much of everything else is suitable but the graphics are not one of the strong points in Dragon Age.

The audio on the other hand is a mismatch. While the voice acting is simply astounding and fits really well....the music is something to yawn at. The peaceful town music doesn't aid much to the atmosphere and the combat music is a tad on the overly loud side but regardless of that the music is really just there and not really noticeable. The sound effects are fine, swords clang, lighting bolts bolt, and they are all standard sounding.

image

Okay, so do I get it?

Depends, if you didn't like Mass Effect or Knights of The Old Republic then I recommend you don't get it because the majority of talking will likely bore you. But if you do have a decent attention span, like using your brain, and don't mind moral grayness then you are in the right town mister or misses. Pick the game up right away and hey, you even get two free DLCs with it if you do. Though, only one adds some story and a party member while the other is just some armor.

I digress though, Dragon Age is quite possibly the most prominent RPG to date. With great story telling, complex yet simple gameplay, and a lot of player choice the game will last you for many months to come.

Cleril is guilty of playing Dragon Age: Origins for 10 hours, 19 minutes, and 56 seconds straight. Only stopping because his parents wanted to watch a romantic comedy.

After playing the game for a while I noticed some significant differences between the solo and multiplayer mode.

The gameplay was very nice in how it blended the different genres into a tower defense game. At first I thought it would just be a Sanctum clone with more cartoony graphics but boy was I wrong. Dungeon Defenders offered so much more with its item system along with the shooting/melee fighting and tower building.

I had first tried solo play on the unranked servers to see how the game would fare. I had set the difficulty to medium, and boy was that a mistake to try to do a higher difficulty at level 1. I was quickly overrun by the time I hit wave 5 out of 6. It had been a long time since I had come across a game that was challenging right off the bat so that was great to start out with.

After having played on easy for an hour or two on solo I had my friends join me after they finished downloading the game. There was an immediate difference in how the game played out. For starters the more players we had join the more monsters you have spawning, so the difficulty would increase to match the higher number of players. This kept it challenging with more players, instead of just making it easier. The starting money you had to make towers, was the same amount for solo play as multiplayer so you also needed to coordinate with your friends on how to spend the money as well.

After trying out every class one of the things that I noticed was that some were definitely more suited for solo play compared to others. The archer for example, could lay traps, but had no effective way to block a path. This lead to situations where you would have monsters coming from 3 or 4 different places at the same time. This is where having a friend or two comes in, because it will help significantly to only have to focus on one or two areas for the monsters. On the other hand, the squire could block paths with barricades that would push monsters back and high tower health. This is where some of the discrepancies lie in that a squire is THE class to play while solo, and is very important in multiplayer as well. Fortunately it seems the developers noted this, and allowed players to build towers for one class, and switch to another class, but keep all of the towers built. This effectively allows a single player to use all classes, and focus on one to upgrade and repair your towers.

In the end after having played both single and multiplayer, I definitely found multiplayer to be more enjoying. If you have a group of friends to play with, this game is definitely for you. I would easily rate this in my top 5 tower defense games to play.

Quick note before you continue, I played Oblivion on it's highest settings on my computer with little to none problems so I can't promise you'll get the same experience I had when you play the game.

Story: Now I'm going to be honest here (Don't hate me for what I'm about to say...) but the main story wasn't really all that interesting to me. Infact I abandoned it after the first Oblivion gate and went off to explore the world. Inbfact, I really enjoyed the sidequests a hell of alot more than the main quest (The Dark Brotherhood quests were epic) I do however plan on finishing the main quest eventually, just not right now. One final point I'd like to add is that there is a metric ton of lore behind The Elder Scrolls series which really helps bring the world of Tamriel to life, something I personally quite liked.

Gameplay: The gameplay in Oblivion is what really keeps you hooked. The controls were simple enough and the User interface was easy to use, though tedious at times due to all your items being in a long list which was inconvenient however this is only a minor annoyance. The combat was good but not perfect and weapons/armour degrade too quickly. What kept me playing despite all of this was the sheer scale of Oblivion. There really is no way to describe it to another person until they themselves take those first few steps out of the sewers and into the land of Cyrodil. The amount of freedom in Oblivion is breathtaking. You really can play it however you want thanks to the leveling system in Oblivion (Which has been getting mixed reactions). For example, if you wanted to be a sneaky thief you would set Sneaking as your major skill meaning you don't get EXP by killing enemies like most games, but by being stealthy and sneaking your way around. Oblivion really is a game that you can play honestly however you want to.

Sound/Graphics: Oblivion is a beautiful game. I'm not going to deny that. The scenery looks gorgeous. The monsters are awesome and the OST does an amazing job of creating an amazing atmosphere whether you're crawling through dungeons or slaying daedra in the planes of Oblivion. I could go on for ages about how great this looks so instead I'm just going to name the only flaw that got to me during my playthrough. The one that got to me was that all the characters share their voice actor with another meaning you hear the same voice. A lot.

Conclusion: Oblivion is a beautiful fantasy sandbox game. The world of Tamriel is amazing and the game can truly be played however you want to play it. If you're like me and are into Epic Fantasy Adventures like Lord of the Rings and A Song of Ice and Fire this is the perfect game for you. Oblivion is also a great starting place for those who want to get into the series. I would strongly recommend this game to anyone who wants to give this a try.

Here's my review of DA2, keep in mind this is just my opinion on the game and may not be the same as your take on it. Hope it helps in your decision to invest time in this game or not. Enjoy!

Story: I really enjoyed the story in Dragon Age II. It was very gripping and had me hooked for hours. There is a lot of lore in the Dragon Age series and since this was my first Dragon Age game I initially found it hard to follow the story but this was quickly remedied by the in game codex which updates with new lore for you to read as you come across it making the story easier to follow for new gamers trying to get into the series. The characters were very interesting and enjoyable and I really enjoyed listening to them talk amongst themselves during quests which made me want to take my time with quests sometimes pausing to listen to my party talk about random things such as a character's cat named Ser Pounce-alot.

Gameplay: I found the gameplay in Dragon Age II to be very fun and easy to learn. The controls are not very complex, in fact the entire game can be played with just the mouse. The character's animations during combat was fluid and looked great (I especially liked how the mages attack with their staffs) and like most RPG's the levelling system is deep with a large range of skills for all character classes. The game is fairly long, I myself have clocked about 9 hrs and still playing, though after awhile missions can get repetitive though this is only a minor annoyance. The battles in this game can be challenging, going in head on without pausing the game and issuing commands usually ends with a game over, but once you get the hang of controlling your party members and set tactics for the AI to follow you'll have a great time with DA2.

Sound: Now this is where DA2 falls short. After playing Bioware's ME2 I was expecting an awesome soundtrack from DA2 (Suicide mission anybody?) but instead I was very disappointed. In in game sound effects when navigating menus and such were a nice feature a lot of the sound track was forgettable with no great tracks. Even after hours of playing DA2 if you told me to hum the battle music I wouldn't even be able to remember how it starts.

Graphics: The graphics in this was fairly good. Textures were great but nothing really spectacular. I quite liked how blood splattered across your characters during Combat and the facial and bodily animations were great. Where the graphics really stood out in this game was during scenes with magic/magical attacks and Non-human characters such as the Qunari looked amazing.

Conclusion: I found DA2 to be quite a fun game, more so that I expected. The game was easy to get into, even for a newcomer to the series such as myself, and the combination of a great story, intuitive controls and an interesting cast of characters make it a good game that is only let down by it's bland soundtrack. I would recommend DA2 as it is a fun game though don't go expecting something on the level of Mass Effect 2.

Bioware's first release on the Xbox 360 was Mass Effect and the design elements from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic can be seen throughout the game. The game begins with you creating a Commander Shepard, you can choose between a male and female commander. The creation process allows you to choose from a variety of background and visual features, and you can even choose your own first name. Like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the decisions you make in the game have a substantial bearing on the game and the future events that unfold. One way to change the path of the game is through dialogue and the choices that result from your "words." Do you want Commander Shepard to be a war hero who is loved by the galaxy? Perhaps you prefer a Commander Shepard that is feared? The good news is the decision is yours. During the creation process you get to choose a primary character class. There are three primary classes along with hybrid classes that combine certain elements from the primary classes. The combat system and the style of play will be different based on the class you play, and this makes for some interesting replayability. The story of the game is interesting and there are primary quests that, once completed, advance the story arch. In addition to the primary quests there are various secondary quests that could potentially affect the galaxy in upcoming installments. The game play is a mixture of a shooter based game and an RPG. I felt that it was an enjoyable combat system, very similar to that of Star Wars: The Old Republic. One disappointment was with the command options that you could issue to your companions, they felt limited and at times useless. Overall, the game provides a entertaining mixture of RPG and shooter and presents some tough decisions throughout. If you enjoyed Star Wars: The Old Republic then the chances are you will also enjoy Mass Effect.

Despite the harsh criticism, I did have a lot of fun with this game that was great while it lasted. I recommend the DLC packs when you begin to be bored to help get you back in the game.

Ads were on all the time when this game first came out, the ad campaign had me hooked, so I checked out Borderlands when it came out.

Borderlands takes place on the planet Pandora, where you are looking for a Vault that has riches beyond belief. Simple enough story, just enough to lead you through the game. There aren’t any major surprises throughout the game, and the game stays fairly linear, unless you choose or do not choose to do any of the side quests.

The gameplay is great. It’s pretty much a straight up FPS, there isn’t really anything new in the genre. However, the game is extremely addictive. You always want to level up your character, as this makes the game a lot easier. However, the game gets boring if you play alone. With friends, on the other hand, the game play is a lot better and a lot more fun.

Graphics are nothing special. I didn’t see any pop in while driving the cars in the game, and the graphics don’t draw your attention as they do in other games.

Controls are good, through your jump feels a bit floaty compared to other controls. If you play on consoles, or are using the xbox 360 controller on your PC, the driving controls are pretty bad. Other than that, though, the controls are good.

Borderlands is a fun game, especially with friends. However, if you play alone, the game isn’t as fun, and may get boring before the end of the game.
